John Niyo is a sports columnist who has been with The Detroit News since 1995. He spent 2008-09 on the Detroit Lions beat, chronicling the worst two-year stretch (2-30) in NFL history. Prior to that, he served as a feature writer in sports, while also covering the Red Wings, college football and four Olympic Games.
