Lindy's has Wolverines in Elite Eight, Spartans in Sweet 16

Lindy’s college basketball preview magazine has two players from state schools ranked among the nation’s top eight point guards … and they don’t play for the Wolverines or Spartans.

Reggie Hamilton of Oakland is ranked as the fourth-best point guard in the country. Ray McCallum Jr. of Detroit Mercy is ranked No. 8.

The Spartans do have the No. 2-ranked small forward in Draymond Green. The Wolverines’ Tim Hardaway Jr. is the No. 4 shooting guard in the country, followed by MSU’s Brandon Wood, a transfer from Valparaiso, at No. 5. Trey Zeigler of Central Michigan is No. 16.

The Wolverines are ranked No. 7 nationally and the Spartans No. 16. Ohio State is the preseason pick for national champion.

Lindy’s has North Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt joining the Buckeyes in the Final Four. It has the Spartans advancing to the Sweet 16 and the Wolverines to the Elite Eight.

The Wolverines and Spartans are the lone teams from the state making the NCAA Tournament. The publication has Detroit finishing second to Butler in the Horizon League, with Oakland finishing second to Oral Roberts in the Summit. Western Michigan is picked to win the MAC West, but the Broncos come up short of winning the conference championship.

Oakland will host Michigan Dec. 10. The Grizzlies will also host Tennessee in an ESPN game Nov. 28 at the O’rena.
