Michigan’s hockey program isn’t getting a lot of respect after advancing to the national championship game last season.
The Wolverines, who lost standout forwards Louie Caporusso and Carl Hagelin, are ranked No. 6 by USCHO.com and No. 9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine preseason poll. They are the third highest ranked team in the CCHA in both polls.
USCHO.com has Notre Dame ranked No. 1, followed by Miami, North Dakota, Denver and Boston College.
USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine has Miami in the top spot, followed by Notre Dame, North Dakota, Denver and Boston College.
Western Michigan is ranked No. 13 in both polls.
Michigan will play a preseason game next Monday at Yost against the U.S. U-18 team. The Wolverines will open the season the following night against Niagara in Ann Arbor.
Michigan State will open its season in the Ice Breaker tournament at North Dakota Oct. 7 against Boston College.
