Michigan has decided to go somewhat throwback for the Big Ten season starting with today’s noon game against Minnesota, which is old-school in itself.
Michigan, ranked No. 19 and 4-0, is playing Minnesota (1-3) in the oldest trophy game today at Michigan Stadium for the Little Brown Jug.
The Wolverines are wearing the famed winged helmets with their jersey numbers on the helmet. Michigan wore the helmets for the first night game at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 10 against Notre Dame.
A Michigan official said the coaching staff decided to add the numbers to the helmet for the Big Ten season.
Meanwhile, as expected, left guard Ricky Barnum (ankle) has not dressed for the game. Michael Schofield will start in his place.
Also absent from the dress list are fullback John McColgan and tailback Michael Shaw.
Will Hagerup, making his return from a four-game suspension for a violation of team rules, will start at punter for the Wolverines.
