A few extra quick-hitters from U-M's 2013 QB commit

There were a few things from my interview with Shane Morris, the De La Salle quarterback who is headed to Michigan in 2013, that didn’t make my story on Tuesday in The News (http://bit.ly/x5LGNT). Here are a few items of interest:
• Don’t underestimate Morris’ potential in the punting game. While a left-handed thrower, he kicks right-footed. According to De La Salle’s special teams coach, Morris averaged a shade under 40 yards a punt last season and had a 58 yarder in one game. Morris played soccer for seven years.
• Although Morris committed to Michigan early last year during his sophomore year, he continues to draw interest from other schools. While we spoke during a break at school, his coach, Paul Verska, handed him a number of envelopes with letters from different schools. How does Morris handle the interest? “They’re allowed to Facebook message me now,” he said. “I tell them, ‘Thank you for the interest but I’m solidly committed to Michigan, so I have to decline.’”
• Dennis Norfleet from Detroit King had been committed to Cincinnati until Michigan approached him the day before the start of the national signing period earlier this month. Morris had high praise for Norfleet, a running back who is expected to play a big role in the Wolverines’ return game. “I love him,” Morris said. “He’s a good pickup for us. I’ve been with him the last two years and trained with him the last two summers. There’s not another player like him in the nation, what he can do with the ball. He’s a freak.”
