MSU beats SLU, advances to Sweet 16

It was ugly, just as Saint Louis wanted it to be, but in the end, Michigan State had enough to overcome the upset-minded Billikens and advance to the Sweet 16.

Keith Appling scored 18 points and Draymond Green added 16 to lead top-seeded Michigan State to a 65-61 victory over No. 9 Saint Louis at Nationwide Arena on Sunday.

The Spartans (29-7) advance to face No. 4 Louisville in the West Region semifinals Thursday in Phoenix.
