Andrew Maxwell threw three interceptions in the first half, the final one coming as Michigan State was moving in for what would have been the go-ahead score late in the second quarter.
Maxwell’s first two interceptions came on tipped passes and his second one was returned 43 yards for a touchdown by Boise State’s Jeremy Ioane.
Michigan State was penalized six times for 60 yards but Boise State also turned the ball over twice.
But Boise State quarterback Joe Southwick got into a groove in the second quarter while the Spartans were busy shooting themselves in the foot.
Le’Veon Bell has been Michigan State’s most consistent player, carrying 22 times for 108 yards and scoring on a 1-yard run.
