Two experienced players will not play for Michigan today against UMass.
Linebacker Desmond Morgan and fullback Stephen Hopkins are not on the dress list released within an hour before kickoff at Michigan Stadium.
Michigan coach Brady Hoke updated the Wolverines’ injury situation after practice Friday in his MGoBlue.com video.
He said fullback Stephen Hopkins is “struggling a little bit with a hamstring,” while linebacker Desmond Morgan “has a little bit of a head problem.”
Hoke did not offer more details on the injuries.
Injuries aside, Michigan has plenty to work on in week three of the college football season, and the Minutemen should give the Wolverines ample opportunity to find some rhythm and consistency.
UMass, in its first FBS season, is 0-2 and has been outscored 82-6 this season.
Among the things Michigan needs to accomplish in today’s game, establishing the running backs. So far this season, quarterback Denard Robinson has accounted for 245 of the team’s 283 rushing yards. Tailback Fitz Toussaint likely will get the bulk of carries, at least early in this game.
Robinson should also a chance to work on timing and routes with the receivers. Don’t expect Robinson to play the entire game, providing the Wolverines have a substantial lead, and that will allow backup Russell Bellomy game action. But Robinson will need time to develop chemistry with the receivers.
