MSU set to begin Big Ten play against Ohio State

Michigan State’s non-conference season is done, and as it gets ready to face Ohio State within the hour, it hopes its fortunes start to turn around.

The Spartans went 3-1 through the first four weeks but have not played well. The defense has been OK, but offensively the Spartans have struggled. The passing game has been a source of constant concern as the receiving corps has dropped 13 passes in the past two weeks.

Running back Le’Veon Bell has been outstanding, but the offensive line has also struggled at times. They have blocked well for Bell but pass protection has been more of an issue. It will be interesting to see how well the line plays today against an Ohio State defense that has fallen far short of expectations.

There are no big surprises on this week’s dress list, though defensive tackle Tyler Hoover will once again sit out with a calf injury.
