Michigan trails Northwestern

Northwestern’s Venric Mark has put the Wildcats on the scoreboard first with a short touchdown run giving them a 7-0 lead over Michigan at Michigan Stadium.

Not surprisingly, the Wildcats had big gains in the rushing game. They have 78 total yards so far, including 59 rushing.

Michigan, with junior Devin Gardner starting at quarterback today, had only 13 yards its first drive.

This is Gardner’s second straight start, while senior Denard Robinson continues to recover from a nerve injury in his right (throwing) arm. Gardner threw two touchdowns and ran for another as he led Michigan to a victory last Saturday at Minnesota.

In pre-game warmups, Robinson, wearing a long blue protective sleeve on his right arm, was limited.

Jack Kennedy, a walk-on, appeared to be warming up as Gardner’s backup — he was the backup last week — and Russell Bellomy was the third in warm-ups and then freshman Brian Cleary.
