MSU, Northwestern battling for bowl position

Michigan State and Northwestern don’t have a shot at winning  a Big Ten title, but today’s matchup could determine which team plays on New Year’s Day in the Gator Bowl.

A victory by either team would give it the best shot at playing in Jacksonville, a decent consolation prize for two seasons that didn’t quite play out the way each team had hoped.

Michigan State is trying to win its first conference game at home this season, a skid that comes on the heels of 15 straight home victories.

Thirteen seniors are playing their final game at Spartan Stadium as Michigan State closes the season next week at Minnesota.
