It is 20 degrees with the wind chill and there are some snow flurries here at Ohio Stadium as 20th-ranked Michigan takes its final pre-game warm-ups along with the unbeaten Buckeyes.
In other words, it’s an ideal setting for The Game, the final regular-season game for the two arch-rivals who will play today for the 109th time.
Michigan senior quarterback Denard Robinson was throwing the ball a bit in warm-ups but still doesn’t look completely 100 percent. Robinson has struggled with an injury to the ulnar nerve in his right arm and after missing two and a half games, he started at tailback last week.
With that in mind, the expectation is Devin Gardner will make his fourth start at quarterback for the Wolverines.
The Buckeyes likely will be without senior defensive lineman John Simon, who apparently has a knee injury. If Simon is unable to play, that would be a huge loss for the Buckeyes’ defense. He leads the Big Ten with nine sacks and is tied for first in tackles for loss with 14.5 along with OSU sophomore linebacker Ryan Shazier.
Michigan will not have a chance to play today for a spot in the Big Ten championship game since Nebraska beat Iowa on Friday to clinch the Legends Division. The Wolverines are 8-3, 6-1 Big Ten, and while there is an outside chance they could land a BCS bowl if they beat Ohio State today, they more than likely will be headed to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.
The Wolverines will try give Ohio State its only blemish this season. The Buckeyes are 11-0, 7-0 in Urban Meyer’s first season as their head coach. The Ohio State players have called today’s game their bowl since the Buckeyes are ineligible for the postseason because of NCAA sanctions.
