Drew Basil made a 41-yard field goal to give the Buckeyes the advantage with 37 seconds left in the quarter. Ohio State was penalized twice for false starts and once for holding.
Michigan had tied the game, 7-7, on a 75-yard pass from Devin Gardner to Roy Roundtree.
Ohio State took the lead on the opening possession of the game when Carlos Hyde ran three yards for the score.
