Michigan State, Minnesota in tight battle at halftime

Michigan State closed the first half on a 13-2 run to cut Minnesota’s lead down to 39-38 at the break.

Travis Trice nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, his third of the half. He leads the Spartans with nine points as Keith Apppling and Gary Harris both sat with two fouls.

Derrick Nix has had a tough first half, shooting 3-for-11 from the field and scoring just six points.

Rodney Williams and Andre Hollins each have eight points for Minnesota.

The teams are struggling from the free-throw line with Michigan State going just 1-for-7 and Minnesota 3-for-8.
