Michigan State is threatening to run away with the game early in the second half. Keith Appling has hit three straight jumpers — including a 3-pointer — and pushed the lead to 19, the biggest of the game.
Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr. got his first basket of the game early in the second half, cutting MSU’s lead to 12, but Gary Harris answered with a 3-pointer. Burke had a three-point play but Appling started his scoring spurt, pushing the Spartans.
Burke picked up his third foul and Michigan coach John Beilein had to take him out of the game but quickly brought him back in to guard Appling.
