Could there be another Wheatley playing football at Michigan?
Former Michigan standout Tyrone Wheatley, now a Buffalo Bills assistant coach, was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame earlier this month and spoke proudly of his five children.
His oldest son, Tyrone Jr. – he goes by T.J. – is a 6-foot-6, 225-pound tight end/defensive lineman at Fayetteville Manilus in Syracuse, N.Y., and is a 2015 college prospect.
Michael Freeman, who covers the NFL for CBSSports.com, on Saturday tweeted from the NFL combine in Indianapolis that he ran into Wheatley and was told T.J. had been offered a scholarship to Michigan.
Wheatley told me he wants his son to make whatever he feels is the right decision regarding his college future, but would he want to see T.J. at Michigan?
“Would I like for him to don the winged helmet? You bet I would,” Wheatley said.
Wheatley said his wife, Kimberly, will handle their son’s recruiting process.
“That’s her baby, her first born,” Wheatley said. “She’s going to want to know every single thing.”
