Former Tigers outfielder Johnny Damon had a little fun in pregame warmups tonight, donning the Sam Fuld superhero cape that’ll be given out to fans at Sunday’s Rays-Indians game.
The Fuld promotion (which, by the way, looks like the cape that’ll be given away to kids on Justin Verlander day on July 3 in Detroit) only was added to Tampa Bay’s promotional schedule after the Rays had to scratch Manny Ramirez bobblehead night. He, remember, retired one hit into his prestigious Rays career, amid reports of another failed drug test.
There was some question whether Fuld would make it to his giveaway night, either. He hit a scorching .366 — including one memorable four-hit game at Fenway Park — and played dazzling defense in left field in the first 18 games after his callup, but has hit just .129 in 103 at-bats since.
Don’t worry, Tigers fans. The ballclub had no plans for a Scott Sizemore giveaway.
