The folks at Fox Sports Detroit have some fun stuff planned for the Tigers’ final regular-season home stand of the season.
For starters, broadcast duo Mario Impemba and Rod Allen are being booted from the booth for tomorrow’s game against the Orioles — and into the stands, where they’ll call the action while sitting among the loud (and, fingers-crossed, tipsy) Tigers fans.
Should make for good TV, as it has in years past on FSD, which last sent the Tigers TV team into the seats in ’03. I remember years ago, Josh Lewin and Kirk Gibson were quite entertaining doing a broadcast from right field.
Impemba and Allen’s seats will be better — front row, right behind home plate. They must know somebody!
During Friday night’s game, meanwhile, FSD will have another one of its dual telecasts — with the action being called by Impemba and Allen on FSD, and Ryan Field hosting a social media/web chat on FSD-Plus. Trevor Thompson, my old colleague Dana Wakiji and the FSD Girls will participate, with fans able to submit their questions and comments. (Hmmm, wonder how many “How does Field get his hair so perfect” ones they’ll get?)
Also of note, while FSD doesn’t do the postseason games — the ALDS is on TBS, and the ALCS and World Series are on Fox — I’ve been told the postgame coverage still will be strong, as it was with champagne-soaked Field and John Keating following the AL Central clincher. FSD plans to interrupt programming to do shows following every Tigers playoff game.
