The Belle Isle Conservancy is hosting the Sunset to Summer: A Belle Isle Beer Garden on Sept. 20, from 12 – 6 p.m. as part of the finale of Belle Isle Summer Saturdays (BLISS). It’s in addition to the programming that’s been offered all summer long. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend a free yoga class, rent kayaks, visit the Aquarium and Conservatory, and receive a FREE DNR Recreation Passport, provided by Charter One.
The “pop-up party” features communal seating, food, beer, and games. The Belle Isle Beer Garden will feature a variety of brews from the Atwater Brewery, including the “Belle Isle Brown.” Food vendors include the People’s Pierogi Collective, Treat Dreams, and others. The family-friendly event also includes games for patrons – from Cornhole to Candy Land.
The Belle Isle Conservancy created BLISS summer 2013 to provide expanded programming in the park and to showcase existing destinations and activities that are open on Saturdays. Activities include:
- Beer Garden from 12 – 6 p.m.: White House lawn (vintage home across from the Aquarium). Fees: $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Atwater Beer will be available to purchase via tickets for $5, and food available for purchase via cash.
- Yoga from 10:30-11:30 a.m.: at the Conservatory Garden. The first 50 participants receive FREE Recreation Passports, compliments of Kind Snack Bars
- Food Concessions from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at various locations. Pricing based on vendor.
- Kayaking @ the Beach from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: By Detroit River Sports. Fees: $15/hour single, $20/hr tandem
“We are so happy to present the Beer Garden,” said Michele Hodges, president of the Belle Isle Conservancy. “BLISS has serviced thousands since June and we hope to build and grow the program. It shows the true potential of the park. We’ve received many comments over the years requesting the park’s activities be brought back. BLISS is a demonstration of hopefully what the future holds.”
