Northern Guard Storms East Lansing

Detroit is known for it’s passionate sports fans. We’ve Eaten Up Tigers, bawled for Bad Boys, growled for Grind Lines and hailed Gridiron Heroes. And now Detroit can add the world’s most popular sport to this tradition… enter the Northern Guard Supporters. The fierecly loyal and dedicated fans of Detroit City Football Club. That’s football as in ‘soccer’ not football as in ‘pigskin’.

Led by Capos Sergeant Scary, Banshee and Ranger, The Northern Guard Supporters pelt opponents with a 90-minute onslaught of cheers, taunts, synchronized stomps, and all manner of ad hoc shenanigans. Yellow cards and fouls beget an immediate “You can’t do that, you can’t do that!” Penalties and set-pieces? “Shot, shot, shot…” Goal? Get ready for smoke bombs and “We score, we shout and then we smoke you out!” Needless to say this isn’t the Wave or the Chicken Dance. In fact it’s most exhausting, rentlentless, obnoxious fun you’ll ever have.

At a recent away match, the hundereds of Northern Guard Supporters simply overpowered the home field Lansing fans. From the National Anthem to the post-game presser Scary, Banshee, Ranger and their crew brought a beautiful madness to the beautiful game. In the end City may have lost the match on the pitch but they won the war in the stands.

City takes on the Madison 56ers at home this Saturday at Cass Techincal High School — and to borrow a phrase from the Northern Guard — get your a$$ to Cass!
