Beating the Summer Heat…

While Detroit is a pretty cool city, there’s no denying that summer here can get quite hot. Fear not, Detroit is home to many fantastic urban parks, 4 of which will be featured as part of Quicken Loans’ “Summer in the Parks 2015”. This series consists of a wide range of events, from opera shows to BBQs to salsa dancing, all of which are totally FREE.

Kicking off this week is the Fourth Friday’s series. On the fourth Friday of June, July, and August, Campus Martius will host 4 musical acts throughout the day, starting at noon. This Friday will be headlined by We the Kings, who will go on stage at 9:00pm. Here’s this Friday’s full lineup:

THE FLUTTER & WOW- 12:00 PM

PAULINA JAYNE – 5:30 PM

MAYAENI – 7:15 PM

WE THE KINGS – 9:00 PM

Remember, there’s something to do at Campus Martius Park every day of summer, and of the rest of the year. It was listed as one of the Top Ten Great Public Spaces in America. It has free concerts during lunchtime, after work and on Fourth Fridays and movie nights on Saturdays. In the summer there is a beach, basketball courts and a beach volleyball court. When the weather gets cold, we don’t stop having fun we just bundle up a bit and enjoy the ice rink, Tree Lighting Festival and Motown Winter Blast. Campus Martius is just one of the great venues in the city, be sure to check out our Community Calendar for events all over Detroit!

Lastly, make sure to stop by the Detroit Experience Factory Welcome Center, located at 123 Monroe St., less than two blocks from Campus Martius. Here you can find maps, brochures, and helpful advice regarding just about any aspect of Detroit. You can also register for one DXF’s many tours of the city and we will also have snacks and drinks for Fourth Friday from 11:30am to 6:00pm. Stop by and say hi!
