Come Friendraise with Hatch Detroit Winner Live Cycle Delight!

For those who have heard about or followed the Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest in recent months, this year’s winner Live Cycle Delight and its founder Amina Daniels have been on a roll since taking the crown in August’s public vote. This was the fifth year for the annual contest, which is presented by Opportunity Detroit, and is a retail competition and opportunity for a savvy Detroit entrepreneur to win a $50K grant to open up their own brick-and-mortar location somewhere in Detroit.

Amina Daniels is a Detroit expat who returned to town in 2013 from New York City, only to find herself as the victim of an unfortunate biking accident. While unfortunate, the accident helped spur Amina’s idea for what has now turned into the highly anticipated first contemporary cycling studio in Detroit. Live Cycle Delight will be dedicated to providing the residents of Detroit an opportunity to find delight through cycling and creating an environment that makes working out fun.

I recently sat down with Amina to catch up on what she’s been doing since winning the Hatch Contest and to learn more about this week’s Friendraiser that’s being held to help promote and raise money for Live Cycle Delight’s tentative early 2016 opening.

Q: Since winning the contest less than two months ago, what’s been happening with you and your new business?

A: Life has been crazy, fun, and busy! I’m in the process of looking for our permanent space – which I’m hoping will be in either Eastern Market or Midtown. I’ve been searching for and interviewing potential vendors, continuing to manage and engage our social media following and create awareness, and I’m always running into people who have heard about Live Cycle Delight – the campaign continues!

Q: What’s been most exciting or enjoyable?

A: Winning the contest is unbelievable, but being the first African-American winner and being able to get the public behind my idea and voting in such large numbers has been very gratifying and inspiring. Since winning, just being able to connect with the community and get out there has been a lot of fun. I’m always running into people who engaged with the campaign leading up to the vote, and now when I see them they still want to know how things are going and what I’m up to.

Q: Speaking of what you’re up to, what can we expect from Live Cycle Delight in the coming months?

A: This week’s Friendraising event at 3434 Russell Street (next to the Wasserman Projects behind Detroit Mercantile!) will go a long way to helping make some important things happen, but I’m hoping to announce our location, class schedules, fitness mixers, and more in the very near future! I’m also going to be looking for instructors!

Q: Who should come to the Friendraiser and what can people expect?

A: Everybody is welcome! We’ll have different tastes of Detroit from some local business, live spinning demonstrations with a master trainer, an aerial yoga circus performance, the Red Bull Girls, and cocktails. It’s going to be a fun time!

Anyone interested in supporting Live Cycle Delight and helping Amina open the doors by early 2016 can purchase a ticket to attend the event or donate at www.tiny.url.com/LCDfundraiser. Hope to see you there!
