Sigh.
As much as I complain about how horribly crowded SDCC is when I’m there, I miss it when I’m not. And this year, I’m not.
So I have to live vicariously through other websites.
The usual suspects, such as Newsarama and Comic Book Resources, have their preview night footage up, of course.
But I was most excited to see some of the floor photos of all the cool stuff companies are announcing.
Two that especially caught my eye: Mattel and Lego.
Toy News International and Action Figure Insider have photos of the super cool Legion of Super-Heroes set coming out. Apparently, it’s a big set that folds up to form the old Legion clubhouse.
So now, I’m even more torn about getting it. I want to get it because it looks so neat and because I love the Legion and because I want them to do a second set. The individual figures I’ve seen look pretty good. And they did Matter-Eater Lad!
But most of the figures in the set have already been released by DC Direct, many in the same (or very similar) costumes. And there’s only one female character. Anyone who did a shred of market research would have known that Legion fans want female Legion figures. If the set doesn’t sell well, it will be because of those two reasons, and I’d hate to see them shelve a set that would give us a bunch of new figures.
But I still have some time to decide.
Lego has struck a deal with Marvel and DC, and their first minfigures are on display. They look cute. Call me when they make Aquaman.
So best wishes to all my friends who’ve made it out there. Stay hydrated and take lots of pictures for me!
