Comic books get into 2012 presidential race

Comic books are getting really political this year.

After covering the likes of the Obamas and former VP candidate Sarah Palin recently, Bluewater is coming out with titles about 2012 Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney, plus a special on the tea party movement, all under the banner “Political Power.”
Bachmann’s book is due in November, and the other two will be out in December. Each promises to take a “middle-of-the-road approach” to their stories, which is in line with their books on other figures on both sides of the political spectrum.

Boom! Studios is also jumping into the game with a comic book straw poll.
The “Decision 2012″ line promises a non-partisan look into the history and political lives of President Barack Obama and Republican candidates Bachmann, Romney, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum (wonder how they’ll handle the Dan Savage thing). They’ve also thrown in Sarah Palin, though she’s not officially in the running yet.

Boom! is encouraging fans to pre-order their book from their local comic book shop by Sept. 29. Those that don’t get at least 1,500 pre-orders will not be printed. The one with the most pre-orders wins the poll (and bragging rights among geeks, I guess). The winner will be announced in November.

For more information on “Decision 2012,” visit its dedicated website.  I just hope they tone down those colors.

I was sick of the 2012 race months ago, but maybe I’ll give these a look for a giggle.
