Dan Trachtenberg, a director of commercials for Lexus, Coca Cola, Nike and others, has pulled something similar to what fellow commercial director Neill Blomkamp did with his short films Tetra Vaal and Alive in Joburg (which was then expanded into the excellent District 9).
Trachtenberg, however, has focused on what is arguably one of the best gaming franchises of recent history, Valve’s Portal.
I highly recommend the HD versions at full-screen, if your computer can handle it, with your sound turned up.
The 6-minute short doesn’t retell any of the stories from the games, but rather a parallel story. I think it’s rather well-done, with a minor continuity quibble. What do you think?
