First impression: 'White Knight Chronicles II' -- I have a bad feeling about this

White Knight Chronicles II drops you into the middle of the action. There’s no tutorial, no bringing-you-up-to-speed section, nothing.

You’re faced with a menu and combat. Welcome to WKC2, we hope you played the first game!

But, fear not. If you haven’t played the first game, a remastered version is included on the disc. The first game has been updated to use the new combat system from the second game, so that you don’t have to learn how to play all over again. This is a good thing, because the original combat system was horrid.

Unfortunately, the solo play in the second game is just as monotonous as in the first game (I’m about 27 hours into the second game, so far). The story’s just as slow-building, and the dungeons … ahh, the dungeons. I have become so jaded that I’ve stopped noticing that the developers used mirrored terrain, identical hallways, and the same bland textures on almost every one. No, this is not auspicious for a game I’m expecting to sink 80-100 hours into.

This is starting to feel more like a graphically improved expansion pack than a true sequel.
