Sorry for the lighter posts this week — it’s been a tough one at the Geek Watch household.
So to make it up to you, I’m offering a double giveaway this week. Two great titles have crossed my desk, and I’m happy to share them.
The first is “Torchwood: Miracle Day.” I actually had mixed feelings about the minseries that was a co-production of the BBC and Starz. While it was an interesting story and well-plotted, moving the action to America didn’t work for me. Like I said last summer: It’s not that the show is bad or uninteresting. Creator/writer Russell T. Davies starts with a fascinating premise and takes it in some smart and equally fascinating ways. And it certainly has its touches. But it mostly feels like a generic sci-fi show dressed up with John Barrowman as the dashing Capt. Jack Harkness and Eve Myles back as Gwen Cooper.
So why should you enter this giveaway? Because it’s “Torchwood!” Jack is Jack, and Gwen is Gwen (love her or hate her — I actually like her). And Rhys was back. It was nice to see everyone again. I hope between his busy schedule and caring for his husband (who has cancer), Russell T. Davies can eventually return. And it did end well, overall.
I have two copies of the DVD version to give away. (Sorry, they didn’t send me the Blu-ray.) And the company also threw in a couple John Pertwee “Doctor Who” DVDs, so each winner will receive one of those.
For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use “Torchwood” as your subject line, and enter only once by April 13. U.S. entries only.
The other title is Cartoon Network’s “Regular Show.” This week saw the release of the “Regular Show Slack Pack,” which contains 12 episodes from the first two seasons of the show about a blue jay and a raccoon acting as slacker park groundskeepers.
Since “Adventure Time” was such a giveaway hit, the DVD folks and I thought “Regular Show” could be a success, too.
For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use “Regular Show” as your subject line, and enter only once by April 13. U.S. entries only.
You can enter both contests, but you only get to win one or the other when it comes time to draw. Good luck!
