If you haven’t seen it on the main site yet, be sure to check out Detroit News photographer Donna Terek’s “Donna’s Detroit” piece on Midtown’s new Chou Anime.
I never thought I’d see it, but Detroit has a real maid cafe patterned after the cafes featuring perky waitresses in maid outfits. I would have expected it to hit Ann Arbor first or maybe Ferndale.
Chou Anime, owned by Oneka and Joe Samet of Birmingham, serves tea and Great Lakes coffees, salads, sandwiches, wraps and sushi, plus many sweets imported from Japan. Mmm, Pocky. There’s also a retail area with kimonos, posters, manga, local crafts and more.
Donna does a nice write-up and includes a video from the shop. Check it out.
I wish Chou Anime the best of luck!
