Exclusive: First look at 'Justice League of America' Michigan cover

A while back, you may remember my post on next month’s debut of “Justice League of America” from DC Comics.

The first issue, featuring Dearborn-based Green Lantern Simon Baz and Detroit-based Vibe (Cisco “Paco” Ramone), will be out Feb. 20 and feature 52 variant covers, one for each state, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. DC was kind enough to give me the first reveal of the Michigan cover.

As you can see, it features the Michigan state flag being hoisted in the iconic Iwo Jima style. Earlier this month, the Michigan cover ranked eighth for preorders. DC’s press rep could only confirm we’re still in the top 10.

We don’t have all that much information about the new book yet. I was hoping to get another exclusive, but the press rep couldn’t tell me whether the new team will be based in Detroit since two of its members are from here and Newsarama had an article about Vibe that talks about Detroit being “a crack in the fabric of reality between all the dimensions of all the Earths,” according to co-writer Andrew Kreisberg.

Newsarama also has a good interview with native Metro Detroiter Geoff Johns, who’s writing “Justice League of America,” as well as co-writing “Vibe” and writing a bunch of other stuff. But it doesn’t say where the team is based.

“Justice League of America,” drawn by David Finch, will feature Green Lantern Baz, Vibe, Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, Stargirl, Hawkman and Catwoman — not your usual group of heroes. They’re thrown together by the U.S. military and supervised by Steve Trevor. The book will lead into this year’s big event, “Trinity War.”
