When I was a kid, the Tyrannosaurus rex was King of the Dinosaurs. You didn’t mess with him.
Then “Meet the Robinsons” made a joke about his short arms, and he’s since become something of an Internet joke, with all sorts of funny pictures posted of the hapless dinosaur trying to perform the most menial tasks. (One of my friends has a special fondness and keeps us up to date on his Facebook page. They’re always good for a giggle.)
One artist to really capitalize on the trend was Hugh Murphy, whose “T-Rex Trying …” Tumblr is a hoot. The folks at Plume Books have collected several of Murphy’s one-panel gags into the new book “T-Rex Trying …,” and I’ve got a copy to give away.
The great selection of gags runs from the obvious (bench pressing) to the absurdly funny (trying to sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”). A dash of red on many of them makes them pop.
For your chance to win , send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use “T-Rex” as your subject line and enter only once by March 1. U.S. entries only.
Here’s a gag idea for Murphy: T-Rex trying to enter Geek Watch’s giveaway …
