Review: 'Batman: Year One' is not a good place to start

This past weekend, I saw one of the scariest things imaginable for a geek: a deadly boring “Batman” movie. “Batman: Year One,” based on the comic story by Frank Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli, is a major snooze. The chief thing it has going for it is the “Catwoman” short that accompanies it. It has … Continue Reading →

'Captain America' vs. 'Green Lantern' on video

Two of Hollywood’s hottest young stars had superhero movies this summer that just came out on video. (Well, three if you count “Thor,” but that was earlier on both counts.) Not bad. (Beware vary mild spoilers, just in case.) Johns, DC’s chief creative officer, is no dummy. Batman … Continue Reading →

Eric's picks for the New 52

Well, today’s the big day, the start of the DCnU with “Justice League” No. 1. It’s Comicgeddon if you listen to some longtime fans. Me, I’ll be happy if the stories are great. Do I agree with all the changes? No. (Cyborg as a JL founder? Um, no.) But I’m willing to give it a … Continue Reading →
