Shield of Faith Church, which now resides on the former Holy Name campus, has graciously agreed to open its doors on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. if you’d like to see the sanctuary decorated for Christmas … including the original Holy Name nativity scene that graced the front of the church each Christmastime through the 1980s.
The nativity scene was recently located in storage in the balcony of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church in Detroit, and was brought home last Saturday. The hand-carved wooden figurines from Germany are still gorgeous and worth the trip … as is the church sanctuary itself, with those stained-glass windows that always captured your imagination, even when Father’s homily didn’t. Hope to see you Saturday. And MERRY CHRISTMAS!
