Last Monday there were are many big upsets in the boys basketball tournament than any day before or since.
With Ann Arbor Huron, Saginaw and Warren DeLaSalle being upset the Class A tournament lost many of its Final Four contenders. I had DeLaSalle and Huron going to the Breslin Center and that leaves me with just two, Romulus and Kalamazoo Central left.
In Class B I faired much better having Detroit Country Day, Lansing Sexton and Muskegon Heights still playing. Only Grand Rapids Christian has fallen. What’s it about East Grand Rapids in the state tournament anyway?
In Class C I’m perfect, so far, as Detroit Consortium, Flint Beecher, Saginaw Buena Vista and Schoolcraft all have reached Tuesday’s quarterfinal round. This class also has the only unbeaten team left, Schoolcraft (24-0), in the tournament in any class.
In Class D I have three Final Four teams left. Wyoming Tri-unity Christian, Superior Central and Fulton have survived. My other pick, Bay City All Saints, got bounced early by Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary in the districts. MLS has also reached the quarterfinals.
Of the teams I have remaining that is on upset watch is Consortium. Buena Vista is a tournament-tested team and if Consortium doesn’t play well it might be sent home.
