On Friday and Saturday, track regional meets will be held throughout the state. One thing you can count on is the excellence with which the meets will be run at West Bloomfield and Grosse Pointe South. Lee Averill and his staff at West Bloomfield and Steve Zaranek and his staff at South do a wonderful, often thankless, job. Both meets are run smoothly and on time (except when disrupted by the weather).
I have covered meets held at Canton, Milford and Warren Mott but I’ve been to these just once each. From what I recall they are run well, too. But I’m more familiar with those at West Bloomfield and South. The sprints are some of my favorites. It’s a chance to see some fine athletes competing in a classic sport.
