Boys basketball region final shockers

The adage that says it’s hard to beat a team three times in a season bit Detroit Catholic Central on Wednesday when Orchard Lake St. Mary’s defeated C.C. 48-46.

C.C. has played so well to this point that to lose to a team that entered the tournament with a .500 record is a shock. C.C. won the Catholic League title and defeated Detroit King in Operation Friendship and seemed destined to play in a Class A quarterfinal. But when you have teams that are so familiar with one another as C.C. and OLSM are perhaps it is not as big of an upset as it appears on the surface.

Perhaps more of shock was Detroit Denby losing to Macomb L’Anse Creuse North, 43-41. I had Denby playing in the Final Four in Class A and I still, 15 hours later, can’t believe the Tars are out. That being said, congratulations to North and now we will either have Lake Orion or North playing at the Breslin Center. Who would have thought it?
