National Football League

"@#$%&!", that was a great Week 1 in the NFL, wasn't it?

Well, that certainly was a terrific NFL opening weekend for the league and its network partners. It started with a thrilling Packers-Saints fireworks show in Green Bay and ended with Tom Brady throwing for 500-plus yards on Monday night. There also were 752 points scored — ninth-most in a single week in history — a record-tying 63-yard field goal, a 99-yard TD pass, three kickoff returns for TDs and one glorious Tony Romo meltdown.

Yet for the network censors this was probably a week to forget, though it wasn’t quite up there with that Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction.”

Most notably, there was Ron Jaworski swearing — and later apologizing — on ESPN’s live “Monday Night Football” broadast. You can hear it here if you want.

But there also was the curious comment made by Fox’s Chris Myers during the Lions-Buccaneers broadcast Sunday. Returning from a commercial, Myers was caught talking to someone else in the booth, apparently thanking them for delivering a drink order. Then he says, “It’s a bourbon on the rocks.” Presumably, that part was a joke.
