A few hoops-related items worth checking out this morning …
If you missed it, here’s Michigan State’s star recruit, Gary Harris, hitting a wild buzzer-beater last night to give his top-seeded Hamilton (Ind.) Southeastern team the victory in a first-round sectional playoff game. Harris scored 31 of his 35 points after halftime in the win. (Tom Izzo could’ve used some of that last night, don’t you think?)
In case you missed this, too, they’re talking about it. Again. Two years after floating the trial-balloon idea of a 96-team NCAA tournament field — they settled on 68 teams instead — there’s now a discussion about expanding it to 128 teams. Stop it. Please. Fix the BCS. Leave March Madness alone.
And on the off chance you’d forgotten about it, Grantland.com offers up a pretty sizeable retrospective on the “Malice at the Palace” brawl between the Pistons and Pacers back in November 2004. Some good stuff in there, some things you’ve probably never heard, and probably a few facts that had left you since that infamous night. (For me, it’s the fact one of the refs was Tim Donaghy, who’d later go to federal prison on gambling charges amid allegations he fixed point spreads on NBA games.)
