Hard to believe it has been nearly a year since we lost Tom Kowalski, the longtime Lions beat writer for Booth Newspapers. But his friends and colleagues are gathering for the first annual Killer Classic on Aug. 27 at the Fountains Golf and Banquet Center in Clarkston.
The golf is already sold out, but tickets remain for the dinner portion of the event. And an online auction with some terrific prizes is up and running through Sept. 4 at the website for the charitable foundation started in Kowalski’s memory. Among the items up for bid: Victor Martinez’s suite for a Tigers game against the Indians on Sept. 5, a Lions’ suite for the Colts game in December, four tickets for the Red Wings-Penguins game on Nov. 19, four tickets to the Michigan-Ohio State game in Columbus on Nov. 24, a chance to sit in on the Drew & Mike show on WRIF one morning.
All proceeds go to support two of Kowalski’s favorite charities — Team Joseph and the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Our Children’s Fund of West Bloomfield — as well as Detroit Lions Charities and the Detroit Tigers Foundation.
