Bubba Watson decided to have a little fun at the Ryder Cup on Friday, encouraging the crowd to be loud – not silent — as he hit his opening tee shot in the afternoon fourballs session.
Saturday, it was Ian Poulter’s turn to go first in the morning’s opening match. and he decided to play along, surprising the fans in the grandstands at the No. 1 tee by asking for more noise, too - just the way Watson had the day before.
Asked about it after Poulter and Justin Rose had held on for the lone European point in the morning, the fiery Englishman explained, “Bubba is Bubba. He was pretty special yesterday. We were talking about it, and he was going to do it again today. So why not stand there and enjoy the fun of what it was? My heart rate went from 100 to 180 pretty quickly. But, I mean, it was a great buzz for sure.”
