Feds: Ex-Detroit water boss Mercado pleading guilty

Former Detroit water boss Victor Mercado is expected to plead guilty to a corruption-related charge Monday morning.

Mercado is set to enter the plea to a five-year felony conspiracy charge at 10:30 a.m. in front of U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The surprise plea is expected to streamline the trial, which will now focus on the major figures in a years-long federal probe of City Hall that has netted at least 18 felony convictions.
