Super Bowl XLVI: Patriots win coin toss, defer

All the singing is done and all the theatrics are complete. It’s time to play some football.

After two weeks of anticipation, Super Bowl XLVI is about to start. Of course, things kick off with the coin toss.

Under the supervision of referee John Parry and with the newest members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame present, the Giants called tails, but the Patriots won the toss when it came up heads. New England chose to defer to the second half, so the Giants will get the ball to start the game.

The NFC had won 14 straight coin tosses.
