At the end of the first quarter, the Lions are still having trouble sustaining any offense, trailing Baltimore 3-0 after the first quarter at M&T Bank Stadium.
There’s not much rhythm right now and the lack of a running game is going to hurt, but this team is going to live by the sword and die by the sword.
Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson will continue their incredible chemistry this season. They connected on a 17-yard gain, but that would be just about it for the Lions. On 3rd-and-2, Stafford threw a dangerous pass that was nearly picked off by Paul Kruger, a defensive lineman dropping into coverage.
If he were playing “Madden,” Ryan Donahue would’ve received a badge for “coffin corner” with his 54-yard punt that bounced out of bounds at the 2-yard line, pinning the Ravens deep in their own territory.
That was all for naught, though. A reverse to Jacoby Jones on the second play of the drive almost went the distance before he was pushed out of bounds, but only after a 35-yard gain.
Several plays later, the Lions blew up a toss play for a gigantic loss but Justin Durant was called for a face mask, which was completely unnecessary, and that completely negated the great play.
The Ravens have the ball at the Lions 31 when play begins for the second quarter.
