Penalties piling up for both sides as Lions lead Ravens

With eight minutes left in the third quarter, the referees have certainly received a lot of practice in tonight’s Lions-Ravens preseason game in Baltimore.

The Lions lead 17-9 in a game that has featured 17 penalties in 37 minutes of game play.

Penalties have hurt both teams, but most recently the Ravens, who have taken eight of those 17.

Rookie Asa Jackson took a punt back 85 yards for a touchdown for the Ravens but it was called back due to holding. Despite the penalty, the Lions are going to want to burn the tape of that return, as it featured pretty much everyone on the field looking bad. So many over-pursuits and just plain bad football. The play turned into a mad scramble with no organization.

The penalty put the Ravens at their own 45-yard line and the Lions forced yet another punt.

Kellen Moore has come in at quarterback for the Lions and he completed his first pass down the middle to Joique Bell (Wayne State) for 10 yards.
