Stafford, Johnson continue to make magic

If the Lions are to be successful this season, it’s probably safe to say they’ll go as far as Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson will take them.

Even though it’s only the second preseason game, the two look like they haven’t missed a beat as they combined for an 18-yard touchdown that gave the Lions a 7-6 lead over the Ravens on Friday at M&T Bank Stadium.

After a Stefan Logan kick return was negated by penalty, dropping the Lions back to the 12-yard line, Stafford connected on a deep fly route down the sideline for 57 yards to (guess who?) Johnson, reversing the field position. Five plays later, the two combined again for the touchdown, giving Johnson five catches for 111 yards not even midway through the second quarter.

Johnson made mince meat out of Baltimore cornerback Jimmy Smith, going completely over the top to grab the ball while managing to stay in bounds. A great catch.

Justin Tucker, a rookie from Texas, drilled a 50-yard field goal to put the Ravens ahead 6-0 less than a minute into the quarter.
