Lions defense lucky after sloppy drive

The Lions defense owes one to Titans kicker Rob Bironas.

Bironas missed a 41-yard field goal on the Titans first drive of the second half after the Lions played sloppy defense.

The Lions overcame their fourth neutral-zone infraction and a defensive holding penalty that resulted in an automatic first down.

But much like the Lions have all game, the Titans had to settle for a field goal. It just didn’t work.

It’s a pretty simple formula if the Lions want to win: Trust the passing game and play smart defense. So far, they haven’t done either, and it’s still 20-9.
