Lions in a must-win situation

Despite what Lions coach Jim Schwartz would try to make you believe, today’s Lions game against the Vikings is vitally important to their season. Schwartz said the fact that today’s game is the last before next week’s bye — and the Lions’ current two-game skid — doesn’t make this game any more important than any other in the season.
That’s what’s the most important about this game. Sure, it’s a division foe and every game is important, but fans’ expectations were so high entering the season — and a 1-3 start is not going to garner any more fan support, especially coming off last week’s heartbreaking loss to the Titans. The bye week will help the Lions get over some of the lingering injuries, including quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Mikel Leshoure. But because Minnesota is 2-1 and the Packers are 1-2, there should be a sense of urgency is keeping up with the rest of the divisional foes. Last year, the Lions saw first-hand the importance of individual games.
That fact shouldn’t be lost today, either.
