Lions defense bends, but doesn't break

After each team’s defense held, the Lions gave up a long pass-interference penalty and the Vikings’ Blair Walsh kicked a 49-yard field goal to put Minnesota ahead, 10-3, with 1:16 left in the first quarter.
On 2nd-and-3, the Vikings’ Christian Ponder went to Jerome Simpson, who was held by Bill Bentley, leading to the 31-yard penalty, giving Minnesota the ball on the Lions 37. But the Lions defense held the next three plays, leading to the field-goal attempt.
So far, the Lions have allowed Adrian Peterson to gain 30 yards on six rushes and will have to shore up the run defense to stay in the game. The Lions offense hasn’t clicked yet, either, picking up just 2 of their 32 total offensive yards on the ground.
