Chris McCosky has covered sports – prep, college and pros – in Michigan since 1980. Before taking over the Lions beat in 2010, he covered the Pistons for 16 years and then the Red Wings in 2009-2010. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University (B.S., 1980), McCosky began his long and winding journalistic journey – covering preps at the Observer & Eccentric, to being associate sports editor at the Muskegon Chronicle to covering University of Michigan football and basketball for the Ann Arbor News from 1988-1992. In that time he covered two Rose Bowls, the Wolverines' NCAA basketball championship run in 1989 and in 1990, he broke the news of Bo Schembechler's retirement. McCosky lives in Livonia and is the proud father of three grown kids – Ryan, 26, now the assistant varsity and head junior varsity baseball coach at Davenport University; Rory, 23, living and working in Livonia; and Molly, 21, in a medical assistant program at Davenport. Andy Levitre a fit?

The Lions look like a team about to go on a free agent shopping spree. They cleared $8.5 million off the books earlier this week by cutting Titus Young, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Stephen Peterman. That put them $5 million under the cap. If they cut center Dominic Raiola, which is under consideration at this … Continue Reading →

Titus as good as gone

Titus Young is going to get his wish. There is no way the Lions can bring him back now. If he was walking on thin ice before, he’s fallen completely through the cracks now. There is no rescuing this guy. “Oh I’m not done, if y’all going to cut me let me go. I’m tired … Continue Reading →

Mitchell responds

Former Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell said he was shocked and hurt at the news that his teammate Lomas Brown had missed a block on purpose to try and get him hurt. Mitchell was on the Dan Patrick Show Wednesday morning. “It just really hurt,” Mitchell said. “It was extremely disappointing. I’m really shocked by it, … Continue Reading →

More bad news for Suh

On the day after one of his most dominant performances, a day after he was contrite and humble in a nationally-televised interview with ESPN’s Merril Hoge, Ndamukong Suh and the Lions will again have to answer to accusations of poor sportsmanship during the 35-33 loss to the Colts. Colts right guard Mike McGlynn told the … Continue Reading →

Backus streak ends; Delmas in

For the first time in his professional career, Jeff Backus will not participate on game day. Backus’ franchise best 186-game consecutive start streak is over, stopped by a hamstring injury. Rookie Riley Reiff became the first player other than Backus to start at left tackle for the Lions since 2000. Stockar McDougall started at left … Continue Reading →

Weighing in on Titus

The Lions will be without receiver Titus Young today. He has been deactivated for disciplinary reasons. Thought I would share NFL Network analyst Willie McGinnist’s take on it: “It’s a good move,” he said. “It has to be painful for the receivers coach Shawn Jefferson and offensive coordinate Scott Linehan. They’re trying to implement a … Continue Reading →
