Reality eludes Detroit council

You didn’t have to watch today’s Detroit city council hearing on the latest consent agreement proposal to figure out that members are detached from reality.

The reality is that Detroit can’t maintain the status quo and survive. It can’t fix its finances without state help. And if it doesn’t reach a deal with the state, it will soon be insolvent.

And yet council members, goaded on by the clueless relic Jesse Jackson, were still expressing outrage at having to give up some power, and still demanding no-strings-attached cash from the state.

They seem to think they have bargaining leverage.

I suspect this is the last offer they’ll get from the state. Turn this down and an emergency manager is coming.
And once again the blame will go to Detroit politicians who refused to accept reality.
