Engler comes home

Former Gov. John Engler has been a regular fixture with the Michigan delegation this week.
Although Engler has lived in Washington since leaving office in 2002, he’s made himself right at home with the Michigan delegation to the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Engler spoke at the tribute to Gerald Ford luncheon on Monday, and at the Cornerstone Foundation luncheon today. Both events were held for Michigan delegates and guests.
Enger obviously still keeps his tab on what’s happening politically in the state, chatting about local races and the state Supreme Court.
He looks good, sounds good. And he’s still self-deprecating about his own appearance.
Speaking at the morning briefing for Michigan delegates today, he said he preferred Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey for vice president because “he has the right body type.”
In the two previous GOP conventions since Engler left as governor, he was far more low key. This time, he’s working the delegation as if he’d never left.
Engler recently bought a home in Michigan, fueling speculation that he might be up for another politcal run, possibly for U.S. Senate in two years.
